Help:Contents
From CWCipedia
Hey Chris!
Editing a MediaWiki is basically the same as editing Wikipedia, but as you edit you'll notice a number of differences. Wikipedia uses a large number of modifications and extensions; if you want some installed, just ask me and I'll get right on it.
This page is unfinished, see Help:Editing, the MediaWiki manual and MediaWiki formatting help.
Getting Noticed
One of the main uses of setting up a wiki is that when people search for related phrases(for instance, your name, Christian Weston Chandler) using Google your wiki will show up within the first few results. But if Google listed every single wiki out there, then it wouldn't be very useful. Empty wikis, or spam sites pretending to be wikis, would show up instead of genuinely useful websites. So, in order for the Google spider bots to list your wiki, you need a minimum of 50 articles(there's talk of raising this number to 100, to make it harder for spammers to get listed). That means, 50 separate pages(excluding things like userpages, templates, configuration pages, etc.) containing at least 30 lines of text(or a certain number of letters, I forget exactly how many). The best way to get the truth out and discredit your detractors(Encyclopedia Dramatica, etc.) is to write articles on every aspect of your life and every topic you care about. Think of this wiki as your own autobiography and soapbox, that will let the whole world know the honest truth about you as well as let you voice your opinions and give your advice to those in need. The world is a confusing place these days, what with all those lies out there. You can make a difference!
Making new pages
To make a new page, simply go to a non-existent page. It's that simple. Clicking a red link, entering a non-existent address into the address bar, or typing the desired page name into the search box and clicking "Go" will all take you to the page, which you can then start editing.
Linking to your pages
Users can find pages through Recent Changes, but a good way to tell people where pages are is to put links in the content portal(I already added some red links to it to get you started). If you want me to make you a new navbox, just ask and I'll make one as soon as I can.
To add another link to the navbox, add {{·}} [[Page Link]] after {{·}} [[YouTube]] but before }}.
